Convert your Access Code to be full-year-valid
An Access Code that is not full-year-valid can only be used to prepare for and participate in the free October contest.
To convert your Access Code to be valid for the entire year, a purchase is necessary:
- If your school is paying for participation, they are responsible for making sure your code is valid.
- If your school is not paying for participation, then make a purchase in the Online Shop: enter your Access Code when prompted, then select either Grade X/Y Contest Participation or Individual All-Inclusive with Grade X/Y Contest Participation.
How will you participate?
You need a valid Access Code to participate in the contests. How you get it depends on how you will participate.
With an Institution (eg. school, library, tutoring centre) Without an Institution (eg. homeschool, distance learning, no school)Get in touch with your Caribou Contact
If you will be participating with your school, then your Caribou Contact (teacher/administrator organizing the contests) is responsible for distributing Access Codes and making sure they are valid.
Your Caribou Contact can tell you whether the school covers the cost of participation, or whether the fees are paid by parents.
If you are not sure whether your school is participating, check the List of Participating Schools. If you prefer to participate in a school setting, or you do not have sufficient internet or internet-connected devices at home, you could request permission to participate at a local institution accepting outside participants.
If your school will not organize the contests, you can also participate at home, without an institution (click on the button above).
See the List of Participating SchoolsWill you register with the Caribou Virtual School or your own Home School?
There are two ways to register without an institution:
- Home School
Disadvantages: It can be a hassle to add a School and Caribou Contact account.
Benefits: you can move your Contest Time Window to suit your needs, you can use Contest Day Tools to make up for technical difficulties, and if you have multiple students you can pay for their participation with one purchase and see all their results in one place. - Caribou Virtual School
Disadvantages : have to contact Caribou if you have any technical difficulties, and if you have multiple students you need to purchase their participation individually and sign in as each of them to view results.
Benefits: You do not need to add a school or create a Contact account, your students have an extra-long Contest Time Window (any time on either day until 18:30EST on Thursday).
